FAQs
Q1: What causes a hub bearing to make a whining noise that gets louder when the vehicle is fully loaded?
A: Additional cargo increases the vertical load on all bearings, compressing the internal components more tightly. If the grease film is thin or the rollers are worn, this extra load can cause metal-to-metal contact and produce a whining sound.
Q2: Why does my new hub have a small raised ring around the ABS sensor mounting area?
A: This ring acts as a locating feature that ensures the sensor is positioned at the correct distance from the encoder ring for accurate signal reading. Do not file it down or remove it.
Q3: Can a bad hub bearing cause my vehicle to make a noise that sounds like a worn serpentine belt?
A: Yes. A bearing with degraded grease or surface wear can produce a high-pitched squealing or chirping sound similar to a worn belt. To differentiate, check whether the noise changes with vehicle speed (bearing) or engine RPM (belt).
