FAQs
Q1: Can a hub bearing failure cause my TPMS light to come on?
A: Indirectly, yes. If the bearing damage causes the ABS sensor to fail, some vehicles will disable the TPMS system as well, since both systems share wheel speed data. Fixing the hub and clearing the codes should resolve the TPMS light.
Q2: Why does the hub flange have a small notch or marking on it?
A: This marking is an alignment indicator. Some vehicles require the hub to be installed in a specific orientation relative to the knuckle or ABS sensor. Always check your vehicle's service manual for proper alignment before final tightening.
Q3: Can I grease the wheel studs before installing the wheel?
A: No. Wheel studs and lug nuts should always be installed dry. Applying grease or anti-seize to the threads changes the friction coefficient, which means the torque reading will be inaccurate. This can lead to over-tightening and stretched studs.
