FAQs

Q1: What is the difference between a hub bearing and a wheel bearing?

A: A wheel bearing is just the bearing itself — the internal rollers and raceways. A hub bearing (or hub assembly) is a complete unit that includes the bearing, the mounting flange, the wheel studs, and often the ABS sensor all pre-assembled together.

Q2: Can I reuse the old axle nut when replacing a hub?

A: It depends on the vehicle. Many manufacturers specify that the axle nut is a one-time-use torque-to-yield fastener and must be replaced. Reusing a stretched nut can result in insufficient clamping force, leading to a loose hub and bearing failure.

Q3: Why does my new hub make a clicking sound at very low speeds?

A: This is usually not the hub itself. At very low speeds, the sound is more likely coming from the brake pads shifting in the caliper bracket or a worn outer CV joint. A hub bearing noise typically only becomes audible above 20-25 mph.
