A: If the hub drops flat on its mounting flange, it is usually fine. However, if it lands on the center axle shaft or the ABS connector, the internal bearing preload could be altered, or the magnetic encoder ring could be cracked. Inspect it carefully.

Q2: Can road salt cause wheel bearing failure?

A: Yes. Road salt is highly corrosive. Over time, it can rust the hub-to-knuckle mating surface, making removal difficult. More importantly, if salt breaches the seal, it will contaminate the internal grease and rapidly destroy the bearing.
