FAQs
Q1: Can I use a standard socket to tighten the axle nut?
A: You can use a standard socket, but you must use a calibrated torque wrench to achieve the exact manufacturer specification. Never use an impact wrench for final tightening, as it can easily crush the bearing and destroy the internal pre-load.
Q2: How do I know if the ABS sensor is integrated into the hub or separate?
A: Integrated hubs have a visible magnetic ring on the inner seal and often a wire connector built into the housing. Separate sensors are mounted externally on the steering knuckle and point toward a toothed ring on the axle or hub.
Q3: Does driving through deep water or pressure washing affect bearing life?
A: Yes. Rapid temperature changes from water can create a vacuum effect inside the bearing, sucking moisture past the seals. This causes the internal grease to emulsify, leading to premature rust and wear.
