Q1: How can I tell if the noise is coming from the wheel bearing or the tire?

A: Bearing noise is usually a continuous hum, growl, or grinding sound that rises with vehicle speed and stays present even in neutral coasting. Tire noise tends to change with road surface and often fades when coasting. A turn test helps: if the noise gets louder when turning left, the right-side bearing is likely loaded and suspect.

Q2: Why does the ABS warning light come on when a hub bearing fails? 

A: Modern hub assemblies integrate the wheel speed sensor encoder ring. When the bearing wears out, excessive play or encoder damage can send incorrect speed signals to the ABS module, triggering the warning light. In many cases the entire hub assembly must be replaced rather than the sensor alone.

Q3: Can a bad hub bearing cause uneven tire wear? 

A: Yes. Excessive bearing clearance allows the wheel to wobble slightly, changing the contact angle of the tire. Over time this can cause inner-edge or scalloped wear, especially if the fault goes unaddressed for many kilometers.
