FAQs
Q1: Can cold weather make a hub bearing noise worse?
A: Yes. Cold temperatures cause the grease inside the bearing to thicken, which can amplify existing noise from a worn bearing. The noise may temporarily improve as the bearing warms up during driving.
Q2: Why does my steering wheel vibrate only when the brakes are applied?
A: Hub runout transfers to the brake rotor, causing it to wobble slightly. When the brake pads clamp down on the uneven rotor surface, the vibration is transmitted through the brake pedal and steering wheel.
Q3: Can I install a hub assembly with an impact wrench?
A: You can use an impact wrench to snug the bolts, but the final torque must always be applied with a calibrated torque wrench. Impact tools do not provide accurate torque readings and can easily over-torque fasteners.
