FAQs
Q1: Can a bad hub bearing cause my vehicle to make a chirping noise that speeds up with the vehicle?
A: Yes. A damaged encoder ring rubbing against the ABS sensor tip can produce a chirping or squeaking sound that increases in frequency as wheel speed increases.
Q2: Why does my new hub have a small tab that bends over the axle nut?
A: This is a locking tab washer that prevents the axle nut from loosening due to vibration. After torquing the nut, bend the tab against one of the nut's flat surfaces to secure it in place.
Q3: Can I drive my vehicle if the hub is making a loud grinding noise?
A: No. A loud grinding noise indicates severe internal bearing damage. Continued driving risks complete bearing seizure, which could lock the wheel at speed and cause a loss of vehicle control.
