FAQs
Q1: Can a bad wheel bearing cause my vehicle's speedometer to fluctuate or stop working?
A: Yes. The speedometer receives its data directly from the ABS wheel speed sensor. If the magnetic encoder ring inside the hub is damaged, dirty, or improperly installed, it will send erratic signals, causing the speedometer needle to bounce or the digital readout to drop to zero.
Q2: What is the purpose of the rubber or plastic cover on the back of the hub assembly?
A: This cover protects the ABS sensor wiring harness and electrical connector from road debris, water, and corrosion. If this cover is torn or missing during installation, moisture can corrode the internal sensor connections, leading to intermittent ABS faults.
Q3: Can I use a pry bar to separate the CV axle from the hub during removal?
A: Never pry against the hub housing or the CV joint boot. Doing so can crack the hub casting or tear the boot. Always use a proper slide hammer or forked separator tool to safely release the axle splines.
