FAQs
Q1: Why does my new hub feel rough or gritty when I spin it by hand before installation?
A: New sealed hubs can sometimes feel slightly resistant due to the thick, high-viscosity factory grease and the tight factory pre-load. However, it should not feel gritty or produce a grinding sensation. Grittiness indicates internal damage or contamination.
Q2: Can a bad wheel bearing trigger a "Check Engine" light?
A: Rarely, but it is possible. If the ABS sensor fails completely due to a damaged hub, some vehicles will illuminate the Check Engine light alongside the ABS light, storing a communication error code in the powertrain control module.
Q3: Why do some mechanics use Loctite on the hub-to-knuckle bolts?
A: Because the hub-to-knuckle bolts endure constant vibration and shear forces. Applying a medium-strength threadlocker prevents the bolts from backing out over time, which would cause catastrophic wheel detachment.
