FAQs
Q1: Do I need to get a wheel alignment after replacing a hub assembly?
A: Yes, it is highly recommended. Removing and reinstalling the hub assembly requires disturbing the steering knuckle and suspension components, which can easily alter the vehicle's camber and toe angles. An alignment ensures your tires wear evenly and the steering wheel remains centered.
Q2: Can a bad wheel bearing cause my ABS to activate unexpectedly on dry pavement?
A: Yes. If the magnetic encoder ring inside the hub is damaged or has debris stuck to it, it may send a sudden drop in wheel speed signal to the ABS module. The computer will misinterpret this as a wheel locking up and trigger the ABS pump, even if you are braking normally on dry pavement.
Q3: Why does the humming noise get louder when I turn left, but quieter when I turn right?
A: This is a classic diagnostic trick. Turning left shifts the vehicle's weight onto the right side, increasing the load on the right wheel bearing. If the right bearing is damaged, the added weight makes the noise louder. Turning right unloads the right side, making the noise temporarily quieter.
