FAQs
Q1: Can a bad hub bearing cause my car to fail an emissions test?
A: Yes, indirectly. If the ABS sensor failure triggers the Check Engine light, many emissions testing stations will automatically fail the vehicle, since an illuminated MIL means the onboard diagnostics are not ready for testing.
Q2: Why does the hub flange have a thin paper or rubber gasket on the mounting face?
A: This gasket prevents direct metal-to-metal contact between the hub and the knuckle, which helps prevent galvanic corrosion — especially on vehicles with aluminum knuckles and steel hubs. Do not remove it during installation.
Q3: Can I replace a hub assembly in cold weather without issues?
A: You can, but be aware that cold metal contracts, making bolts and studs harder to remove. It also makes rubber seals and wiring insulation more brittle. If possible, warm the vehicle in a garage before starting the job to avoid snapping bolts or cracking connectors.
