FAQs

Q1: Can a bad wheel bearing cause my transmission to shift roughly?

A: Yes, on some vehicles. The transmission control module uses wheel speed data to determine shift timing. If a failing bearing sends erratic speed signals, the transmission may shift at the wrong time, shift harshly, or enter limp mode.

Q2: Why does my hub assembly come with a small plastic bag of grease?

A: That grease is meant for the hub-to-knuckle mounting surface and the axle splines. A thin coat on the mating surface prevents corrosion and makes future removal easier. Never apply it to the bearing itself.

Q3: Can I replace just one side of a hub pair, or should I do both?

A: You only need to replace the failed side. Unlike brake pads, hub assemblies don't wear evenly as a pair. However, if one has failed at high mileage, the other may not be far behind, so inspect it carefully.
