FAQs
Q1: Can a worn hub assembly damage my CV axle?
A: Yes. If the hub has severe lateral play, the constant wobbling puts excessive stress on the CV axle splines and joints, potentially causing the axle to wear out or fail prematurely.
Q2: Do I need to replace the brake rotor when replacing the hub?
A: Not necessarily. If the rotor is still within thickness specifications and has no severe scoring or heat spots, it can be reused. However, a warped rotor can sometimes mimic hub failure symptoms.
Q3: Why is my steering wheel shaking after the hub replacement?
A: This usually indicates that the hub was not seated perfectly flat against the knuckle, or the wheel studs were not torqued in the correct star pattern. It could also mean the brake rotor needs to be resurfaced.
