FAQs
Q1: How do I know if the ABS sensor is integrated into the hub or separate?
A: Integrated hubs have a visible magnetic ring on the inner seal and often a wire connector built into the housing. Separate sensors are mounted on the knuckle and point toward a toothed ring on the axle or hub.
Q2: Can a bad hub cause my transmission to shift roughly?
A: Indirectly, yes. If the ABS sensor provides erratic wheel speed data due to a damaged magnetic ring, the transmission control module may receive incorrect speed signals, causing delayed or harsh shifts.
Q3: Is it safe to drive with a hub that has visible grease leaking from the seal?
A: No. A leaking seal means the internal grease is escaping and contaminants are entering. The bearing is already compromised and could fail catastrophically at any moment.
